Thailand building stronger tourism bonds at Acmecs

Thailand is considering boosting the industrial sectors along with tourism for all the members of the Acmecs. The discussions were made by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (Acmecs) in Myanmar. The Prime Minister expressed his wish in promoting the neighboring countries along with Thailand.

The meeting has been planned with a view to cover crucial sectors like agriculture, industry and energy, transport links, tourism, human resources, public health and the environment said Weerachon Sukhontapatipak, the deputy government spokesman.

Acmecs is aimed at tightening collaboration between Thailand and Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

There are talks of single entry visa which will permit travel into neighbouring countries. Thailand and Cambodia have already signed an agreement on a single visa. However technical issues are preventing the implementation of this rule. The meeting will discuss expanding the facility to cover 10 Asean members. The development of special economic zones which connect neighbouring economies, as well as the tourism scheme “Five countries, one destination” in which member countries jointly arrange tours, are also on the agenda. The 7th Acmecs summit will be held in Thailand before 2017.
