The first SkyWork Airlines flight from Bern (BRN) via Basel (BSL) to London City (LCY) will take off on Sunday 19 July 2015. SkyWork Airlines is therefore filling a gap left by SWISS when it moved away from Basel.
Initially, the SkyWork Airlines flight will be departing from EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg (EAP) on weekdays at 07:20 (Bern 06.25) and returning Switzerland at 08:10 local time (LT). On Sundays the airline will be operating a late afternoon flight to London City.
With effect from 31 August, the frequency of BRN-BSL-LCY flights will be doubled. An extra, late flight (evening) will be added on weekdays and, a further flight to the British metropolis on Saturdays.
Less than eight weeks after the initial contact between EuroAirport and SkyWork Airlines on the subject of London City the route is already open. An extraordinary achievement by all the partners involved.
The route will be operated with a Saab 2000 leased from Etihad Regional (ACMI). Martin Inäbnit, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SkyWork Airlines: “This type of aircraft is the ideal choice for our needs and this particular route.”
The CEO is convinced of the route’s potential as well as the attractiveness of the Basel/London City offering. “The early departure to the capital of Great Britain is ideal for business travellers from the tri-border region. As a Swiss airline we are delighted about being able to operate this prestigious route.”
SkyWork Airlines flights to London City can be booked via flyskywork.com and all other distribution channels. Tickets for domestic flights between Bern and Basel are not being offered for operational reasons.
The journey time for passengers from Bern will only be slightly longer as a result of the stopover in Basel. For passengers flying from Bern, the very short check-in times at Bern Airport and the new type of aircraft being used will save a significant amount of time compared with a journey by car or train and an onward flight from Zurich or Geneva.
Adjustment to the flight timetable to Southend
With the commencement of flights to LCY the flight timetable to London Southend (SEN) is being adjusted and optimized. A direct evening flight will operate from Bern to the small and convenient airport to the south-east of London every Mon/Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sun and therefore take into account the wishes of leisure passengers (BRN dep. 18.35 hrs; SEN dep. 19.45 hrs LT).
