New certification for a select group of Etihad Airways

A select group of Etihad Airways UAE nationals is on-track to gain the Certificate in Treasury Fundamentals (CertTF) from the Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT), the leading world body for the industry.

The six UAE nationals, accompanied by three expatriate members of the Etihad Airways treasury team, are currently studying for the recently introduced qualification whilst fulfilling their day-to-day duties, which cover the areas of capital structuring, aircraft and engines orders, and cash and risk management.

The CertTF is an internationally recognised qualification, providing an essential introduction to all facets of treasury, how it fits within an organisation, key concepts and terminology used in treasury. It builds the core knowledge and skills needed to understand or operate successfully within corporate finance and treasury.

Ricky Thirion, Etihad Airways’ Vice President and Group Treasurer, said: “The CertTF is a treasury qualification that will significantly benefit this group of Emirati managers, as well as others who take it in the future, and Etihad Airways’ finance division as whole.

“The content and training provided by the ACT sits perfectly alongside that of the Etihad Airways Graduate Management Development Program (GMDP) and will ensure that the airline’s treasury division has Emirati finance managers of the highest competency and professionalism.”

Vanessa Harwood-Whitcher, Director of Education, Association of Corporate Treasurers, said: “CertTF is the first of the ACT’s new qualifications developed under the ACT Competency Framework, which defines global treasury standards.

“Etihad Airways can be confident it is providing its staff with qualifications rooted in best practice, and that it is investing in developing the right skills to help drive its business forward.”

Matthew Hurn, Chairman of ACT Middle East Network and Executive Director – Finance, Emerging Sectors, Mubadala Development Company, said: “We’re delighted that Etihad Airways has become the first employer globally to sign up members of its corporate treasury team to the ACT’s new Certificate in Treasury Fundamentals.

“We hope more employers follow in Etihad Airways’ footsteps by choosing to develop talent and professional capacity through treasury education and training.”
