Ει βούλει καλώς ακούειν, μάθε καλώς λέγειν, μαθών δε καλώς λέγειν, πειρώ καλώς πράττειν, και ούτω καρπώση το καλώς ακούειν. (Επίκτητος)

LONDON - Ios in Greece boasts the best-rated hotels in the Mediterranean, according to the Mediterranean Island Reputation Ranking 2015 released annually by hotel search website trivago.co.uk.

The index ranks Mediterranean islands according to the reputation of their hotels, based on over 140 million hotel reviews and ratings aggregated from over 200 booking sites worldwide.

Included in the list are islands with at least 50 hotels and hotels with at least 50 reviews. The reviews were taken from hotel stays between 1st April and 30th September 2014, to give an accurate overview of the entire summer period. Although the index focuses on Mediterranean destinations, Portuguese islands were also included as they lie on the same latitude and are equally popular among holidaymakers.

Greek islands undoubtedly boast the most-loved hotels, with Ios, Hydra and Folegandros occupying the top three positions and a further four islands in the top ten, including the ever-popular Santorini and Mykonos.

Italy has also fared well, with Capri and Lipari in positions four and nine, respectively. Madeira in Portugal completes the top ten.

Denise Bartlett, UK Public Relations: “It is interesting to note that few Spanish islands make the list of 30, as these are continuously the choice destination of British holidaymakers during the summer months. Only four Spanish islands are ranked, with the majority towards the bottom of the list. Three of these are part of the Canary Islands (La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote), while Formentera is the only Balearic Island ranked. This suggests that the Balearic Islands, although popular, do not have the most highly-rated hotels.

It is also interesting to note that the more well-known Greek islands of Crete, Corfu and Rhodes have lower-ranked hotels than the smaller island of Ios, Hydra and Folegandros, for example. In this sense, the Reputation Ranking not only highlights the islands with the most highly-rated hotels, but presents the traveller with some attractive alternatives to the typical summer resorts.”
