Glasgow VisitScotland Information Centre on the move

In readiness for the planned £400m extension to the Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow, the VisitScotland Information Centre in Buchanan Street is moving to nearby interim premises before its relocation next year to a new permanent site.

The interim site is an external unit of the Buchanan Galleries, at the Buchanan Street / Sauchiehall Street intersection, just a short distance from the Information Centre’s present location at 170 Buchanan Street.

Buchanan Street – with an annual footfall of 91 million – is the UK’s second busiest shopping thoroughfare after London’s Oxford Street. The Information Centre currently welcomes 200,000 visitors a year, providing them with face-to- face, digital and printed information and inspiration on what to see and do in and around Glasgow and in other regions of Scotland.

The current Information Centre site will be open until and during Sunday 10May and the doors are expected to open at its new interim home during week commencing 18 May.

The team of Visitor Services Advisors will be based within the foyer of Buchanan Galleries to ensure that visitors continue to receive a warm welcome and great service during the transfer period.

Discussions are currently at an advanced stage with all interested parties for a new permanent home for the Information Centre.

Liz Buchanan, VisitScotland Regional Partnerships Director, said:

“The Buchanan Galleries extension is a hugely important project which will further enhance Glasgow’s already fantastic retail tourism offering. Generating over 1,500 new jobs, it will double the size of the mall and add space for more than 25 new restaurants and a multiplex cinema, creating a premium day and night retail and leisure destination.

“Our team of Visitor Services Advisors will continue to provide high-quality service and a warm welcome to visitors from our temporary home at Buchanan Galleries, just as they will when we settle into our new permanent location.”
