President of TUROB; Timur Bayındır released a statement. Bayındır said, “We are proud to announce our support for the Istanbul’s candidacy bid to be a World Design Capital. We believe that Istanbul as a Capital of with its unique and dynamic structure will provide international support and awareness to the title of World Design Capital”.
The World Design Capital initiative is one of Icsid’s international programmes established to support the organisation’s vision to create a better world through design. The initiative also provides unique opportunities for municipal leaders to apply effective design methodologies into city administration.
“The World Design Capital designation represents a global movement for city development using design – a movement towards an understanding that design does impact and affect quality of human life. As a result, developing strategies for promoting and advancing design is increasingly being recognised as one of the core necessities for corporations, as well as governments,” said Dr. Brandon Gien, Icsid President 2013-2015.
