The Dubrovnik Tourist Board has unveiled itself as a 'city of festivals' with the announcement of the 2015 Dubrovnik Summer Festival and Midsummer Scene Festival programme. Dubrovnik, a popular travel destination especially for European travelers, wants to give more fun and entertainment with festivals. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is one of Europe's most important cultural events and has expanded Dubrovnik’s tourist offerings.
The 66th Dubrovnik Summer Festival will run from 10 July – 25 August 2015, featuring more than 2,000 artists and over 70 plays, classical concerts, films and folklore performances in 15 open-air venues across the city.
The Tourist Board also unveiled details of the Midsummer Scene Festival, now celebrating its second year after launching on the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth last year. Running from 20 June – 4 July 2015, the festival will present the Bard's famous comedy Twelfth Night including performances from the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra.
The play will be performed in the stunning Fort Lovrijenac. The Midsummer Scene Festival is sponsored by the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and is a joint production of Brilliant Events Dubrovnik and Honey-tongued Theatre Productions.
"During the summer months, Dubrovnik becomes the cultural capital of Croatia and South Eastern Europe. We hope that this year's festivals will attract an international audience to Dubrovnik and entice new visitors who may not have considered Dubrovnik as a location for theatre and the arts,” said Mrs Romana Vlašić, Director of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
"The festivals combine the beauty of Dubrovnik with art and allow victors to watch performances in stunning surroundings such as Fort Lovrijenac, St Blaise's Church and Lokrum Island. Combine these with a cable car trip, a walk around the city walls and delicious Croatian food and wine for a perfect break this summer," concluded Romana.
Dubrovnik has enjoy a successful start to 2015 with 63,917 overall arrivals since January, an increase of13 per cent compared to the same period in 2014. Dubrovnik is most popular with UK visitors with 2,464 arrivals since January, a year-on-year increase of 17 per cent. The top five markets for Dubrovnik so far in 2015 also included Germany, Israel, Spain and the US.
