Avani Hotels and the Minor Group have opened their first property in the Seychelles. Following a yearlong reconstruction program costing some US$8million, the former Le Meridien Barbarons has reopened as the new Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa. Seychelles’ Vice President Danny Faure, Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St. Ange, Seychelles Tourism Board CEO Sherin Naiken and PS for Tourism Anne Lafortune were among the participants of the opening ceremony.

Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture congratulated the owners of the new Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa and thanked for the confidence that have in the Seychelles economy so clearly displayed by their recent investment. The minister went on to reassure the Management and Owners of the resort of their continued support. "As we congratulate you for the opening of your property, and as we assure you of our total support for the future it is important for us to also use this opportunity to announce that in 2016 we shall be embarking on a Hotel Classification exercise as our attention turn on the product. Today our marketing is working, but we are trailing in what we call the yield from tourism and to rectify this we need to focus on the product and on services we provide in our country. We have to ensure we in Seychelles see our local flavour, our culture and we have that makes us proud must and should be seen in our establishments. I urge the new Avani Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa to look at this call today and be ahead of the pack in being ready for the hotel grading drive" Minister St.Ange said.
