Australian Defence Force spectacular at Avalon

Defence will add a new chapter to its history with the Australian International Airshow by staging for the first time a one-hour Australian Defence Force (ADF) showcase on the 27, 28 February and 1 March.

Director General of the Australian International Airshow 2015, Air Commodore David Pietsch, said the one-hour showcase will demonstrate the interoperability of the Royal Australian Air Force with the Australian Army and Royal Australian Navy.

“The showcase will be an attack and extraction sequence including an air-to-air combat scenario, an assault scenario with Army parachutists jumping out of C-130 Hercules, a C-17 Globemaster heavy-lift aircraft landing with a pair of bushmasters and troops, a ground engagement, air-to-air refuelling, an Orion maritime patrol AP-3C Orion sinking a mock submarine and an Army Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) and MRH-90 multi-role helicopter conducting an infiltration and resupply mission," Air Commodore Pietsch said.

Air Force and Navy will also take part in individual flying displays outside of the showcase window along with F-16 fighter jets from Singapore and the US Air Force.

“All of Air Force’s current capabilities and aircraft will be on display, including the Hornet fighters, the E7-A Wedgetail airborne early warning aircraft, the KC-30A Tanker Transport, C-17 Globemaster and AP3-C Orion.

“All three Services will have extensive ground displays as well,” he said.

The Australian International Airshow will run from 24 February through to 2 March. The theme of this year’s Airshow is “Heroes of the Sky” commemorating the Centenary of Anzac.

“As the Centenary of the First World War unfolds it is appropriate that we pause to reflect on our history and on the feats of the Heroes of Air Power.

“That historical aspect makes this Airshow is unique. Coinciding with the Centenary of Anzac it is appropriate that we revere our past.”
