Tourism Tasmania – The Pumphouse Points to Tourism Success

Pumphouse Point invites visitors into the depths of Tasmania’s beautiful wilderness, giving the kind of unique, world class experience the Liberal Government is keen to promote.
I congratulate developer Simon Currant on his vision and persistence in turning this decommissioned pumphouse into the unique visitor experience it is today.

Pumphouse Point also offers a special insight into our hydro history, as well as a spectacular access to our natural heritage. It’s little wonder the early occupancy rates are strong.
This Government welcomes and encourages sensible and attractive developments like Pumphouse Point that allow tourists and locals to experience Tasmania’s incredible wilderness areas, and to help transform Tasmania into the environmental tourism capital of the world.

To do this we must make it easier for visitors and locals to access our wilderness areas and make the most of these natural experiences.

That’s why we have invited Expressions of Interest for developers and tourism operators for sensible and appropriate tourism developments in our National Parks and World Heritage Area.

We are looking forward to receiving the recommendations from the Assessment Panel later this month, which has been considering 37 proposals.
It is new attractions like Pumphouse Point and those promising developments yet to be realised through the EOI process that will help the Liberal Government achieve our goal of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state every year by 2020, to grow our economy and create more jobs.
