Norwegian Escape launches tapas bar called Pincho to pip competition

Iron Chef Jose Garces is all set to oversee a tapas bar on the soon-to-debut Norwegian Escape called Pincho.

Norwegian Cruise Line announced Saturday the Iron Chef star will bring his Latin-inspired cuisine to two eateries on the 4,200-passenger Norwegian Escape.

The restaurant also will have an al fresco dining area on the vessel’s outdoor Waterfront area.

Bayamo by Jose Garces will highlight Latin dishes with a Cuban-influence in a chic dining room aboard the ship, the line announced. Dishes will include roasted eggplant with tomato rice and a saffron emulsion; and Bacalao Carbonizado — a black cod with a squid ink glaze, saffron, and tomato and chorizo rice.

Garces’ second eatery on the ship, Pincho Tapas Bar, will offer traditional Spanish tapas à la carte. Plates will be prepared on an authentic la plancha grill at the bar in front of passengers.

A mojito bar at the entrance to Bayamo will offer live Latin music, also the line adds.

The Garces eateries are just the latest features announced for the Norwegian Escape, scheduled to debut in October. Norwegian’s biggest vessel to date also will have the largest water park at sea, the biggest-ever deck-top ropes course and a sprawling, two-deck spa with a “snow room” with real flurries.

Iron Chef Jose Garces’ first restaurant at sea will be aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s next ship, the Norwegian Escape.

Norwegian today revealed that the Norwegian Escape will have a modern, upscale food emporium called the Food Republic — a new concept for the line. Designed by the Miami-based Pubbelly Restaurant Group, it’ll feature global cuisine served on small plates and available a la carte. Passengers will order from iPads at tables, and the made-to-order dishes will be brought out as they are ready.

The Norwegian Escape also will feature what Norwegian is calling the first craft beer hall at sea.

Dubbed The District Brew House, it’s being designed in partnership with Miami’s Wynwood Brewing Company and will have its own keg room, 24 draft beers on Norwegian Escape and sister ship Norwegian Bliss, due in 2017, will be about 10% larger than the Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway.
