Iberia returns to Havana and launches new routes

Iberia will resume flights between Spain and Havana, Cuba, which were suspended nearly two years ago. Starting on 1 June, Iberia will operate flights on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, five weekly flights in all.
The airline also announced the launch of a new route from Madrid to the Colombian cities of Cali and Medellin, where Iberia has never flown before. The triangular Madrid-Medellin-Cali-Madrid flights will begin on 3 July, and operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
On both routes the Spanish airline will use its new Airbus A330s equipped with all new interiors, including business class seats that unfold into flat beds nearly 2 meters long and with direct access to the aisle; roomier seats in economy; entertainment on demand from touch screens in both seating classes, plus Wi-Fi and GSM connectivity.
These additional destinations raise to 23 the number of routes resumed or launched by Iberia in the past year, since agreements were reached with employee unions on cost reductions and productivity hikes last February and March, and the implementation of Iberia’s Future Plan.
In 2014 Iberia launched services to Montevideo, Santo Domingo, Istanbul, and Athens, while its low-cost Iberia Express unit began flying to Stockholm, Amsterdam, Hanover, and Stuttgart.
Other new Iberia routes to open shortly, and for which reservations can now be made, are to Florence, Hamburg, Catania, Palermo, Budapest, and Madeira, while Iberia Express will soon be serving Edinburgh, Manchester, Naples, London-Gatwick, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Budapest and Verona. Its Iberia Express unit will also fly from Asturias direct the Tenerife in the Canary Islands, the company’s first domestic flight with no Madrid stop.
