Top UK and European destinations revealed for August Bank Holiday weekend

New figures from Hotels.com show a surge in the number of searches to European destinations, with Corfu topping the wish list (up 130%). This was followed by glamorous French destinations Cannes and Nice (up 94% and 92% respectively). The Portuguese capital of Lisbon saw searches rise by 89%, followed by Rhodes (up by 84%), making it the second Greek island to make it to the top 10. Greece appears be a popular choice with both Kefalonia and Kos also reaching the top 10, with searches increasing by 77% and 58% respectively.

However, it seems some Brits are daring enough to holiday at home this Bank Holiday with the Lake District topping the list of top 10 UK destinations that have seen an increase in searches.

Ambleside and Windermere are the top two national destinations this Bank Holiday up 150% and 89% respectively. It seems many Brits are looking to spend Bank Holiday in waterfront destinations as seaside destinations Brighton (up 62%) and Penzance (up 58%), also saw significant increases

Kate Hopcraft at the Hotels.com brand said, "It's interesting how varied traveller's reactions have been to the rainy weather forecasts. We've seen big increases in the number of holidaymakers looking to soak up European sun. Conversely, the soggy weather has not dampened some people's enthusiasm to travel within their home country, as there have also been substantial search increases for destinations within the UK. Either way, it's always great to see that travellers look to make the most of their last Bank Holiday weekend before Christmas!"
