New Vegas Strip hotels look north 
SLS Las Vegas, Malaysia's Genting Group and Australia's Crown Resorts are all placing big bets on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, planning launches in a section of town that has seen earlier resorts and hotels come to nothing. But the Vegas economy is surging, with visitation up and new diversification underway, conditions that may make the time ripe for north end development. "Las Vegas has moved away from being just a gambling town," said Rob Oseland, president and COO of SLS Las Vegas. Gainsborough Bath Spa to launch in February

Execs: Meetings getting shorter amid group business rebound 
The pace of group bookings is on the upswing, with only the government segment showing weak demand, hotel executives said at the Hotel Data Conference in Nashville, Tenn.
