Mobile Passport Control App set to accelerate U.S. entry process

An innovative app called the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) was launched by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The new and first-of-its-kind app will help expedites travelers entry in to the United States. The app will allow eligible travelers to submit their passport information and customs declaration from their smartphone or tablet before the CBP verification.

According to a statement from the Homeland Security Secretary, the country is highly committed to the facilitation of the United States travel and tourism sector and maintain a high level security standard. He added that the Mobile Passport Control app is an important inclusion in the travel technology sector.

MPC is now available only at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and only for the Apple devices. However, the CBP expects that the expansion of the MPC app will soon address other airports and android devices by the end of 2014.

The MPC app is available for U.S. citizens and Canadian travelers. The app is free-to-use, does not require a pre-approval and does not collect additional traveler information. CBP believes that the travelers who will use the Mobile Passport Control App will experience shorter wait times and less congestion along with faster processing. CBP also states that this innovative app will add to the expedited entry experience aligned with the recent rise of digital travel in the global travel industry.
