Although, World Health Organization (WHO) currently is not recommending any travel restrictions or the closure of borders at points of entry, some of the major airlines start suspending flights to West African countries.
Emirates said on Friday it was suspending flights to Conakry, Guinea. Emirates operates four flights to the Guinean capital in a week and said the decision to stop flying to the country was to protect its passengers and crew whose safety “could not be compromised”.
On the other hand, British Airways has suspended flights to and from Liberia and Sierra Leone until the end of August.
West African carrier ASKY Airlines has also suspended all flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The outbreak began with just a handful of cases in Guinea in March. Since then, that number has grown to 909 confirmed cases and another 414 probable or suspected in that country, Sierra Leone and Liberia and Nigeria.
Sierra Leone has cancelled all football matches with immediate effect in an effort to stem the spread of the virulent Ebola disease.
