Langhe-Roero and Monferrato appointed World Heritage Site from UNESCO

The Association Paesaggi Vitivinicoli of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato announces that the Paesaggi Vitivinicoli of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato are now UNESCO Site - World Heritage of the Humanity.
On the occasion of the 38th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held today Sunday June 22nd in Doha in Qatar, the landscapes of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato were included among the cultural sites World Heritage of the Humanity.
The nominee of Paesaggi Vitivinicoli of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato is a project started in 2003, from an initial proposal of the Canelli territory who wanted to exploit the underground Cathedrals of wine and that its path has collected the accession of the areas of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato.
The nominee has been promoted by Regione Piemonte, Province of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo and Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e il Paesaggio, with the supervision of Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali and of Ministero delle Politiche Agricole, Alimentari e Forestali and the technical support of SiTI (Institute of Territorial Systems for Innovation - Istituto Superiore sui Sistemi Territoriali per l’Innovazione).
Taken together selected areas represent the outstanding quality of the wine Piedmont landscape and its deep and living culture of wine. It is been called a wide buffer area of approximately 76.000 hectares (called buffer zone), which includes the six components and involves more than 100 municipalities.
A great involvement of wine territories: an area that extends over 10780 hectares of land, with 6 main components. The World Heritage Sites are:
  • Langa of Barolo
  • The Hills of Barbaresco
  • The Castle of Grinzane Cavour
  • Canelli and Asti Spumante
  • Nizza Monferrato and Barbera
  • Monferrato of Infernot
