Turkish Airlines launches its Bordeaux- Istanbul line

Turkish Airlines is increasing its presence in France by serving Bordeaux, its 246th destination.

Turkish Airlines, which already flies to Paris, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse and Marseille, has now arrived in Bordeaux. Flights between Bordeaux and Istanbul will be scheduled four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

From 12 June 2014:

Bordeaux, the fifth largest urban area in France, is famous worldwide for its vineyards. It is also ideally situated close to the Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees, and plays a leading role in the French economy.

The city has 239,399 residents, making it the ninth largest French city by population.

Often dubbed the “pearl of Aquitaine”, Bordeaux is known for its monuments and especially its historic centre. In June 2007 part of the city, the Port de la Lune, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for being an exceptional urban complex.

Port operations are also a major activity for the city of Bordeaux. Indeed, the largest seaport of the city annually hosts 1,600 ships and handles around 9 million tonnes of goods (including 4.1 million tonnes of oil).

The city is also reputed for its museums, such as the Fine Arts Museum, one of the oldest museums in France.

The museum is famous for the size and diversity of its collections, and includes exceptional paintings by Rubens, Veronese, Titian, Van Dyck, Gerome, Matisse and even Picasso.
