Hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk’s ranking found out that Italy’s Sorrento, a popular tourist destination famed for its beaches and hillside location, boasts the most highly rated hotels in the world.
Dresden in Germany ranked second and Gdańsk in Poland ranked third.
Destinations are ranked according to the reputation of their hotels, based on over 82 million hotel reviews and ratings aggregated from over 200 online booking sites. Included in the list are destinations with at least 130 hotels and 60 reviews.

Just four UK destinations appear in the ranking, due to the list only including destinations with at least 130 hotels and 60 reviews. Edinburgh hotels were ranked the highest in the UK in 39th position.
Surprisingly, London hotels were ranked below hotels in Blackpool, a destination which is not renowned for its hotels. In 96th position, hotels in London were rated amongst the worst in the world. London hotels are generally criticised for their high prices and small guest rooms, due to a lack of space in the capital city.
