The World Famous Spiegeltent Comes To Derry~Londonderry

The organisers of the 43rd International Pan Celtic Festival have announced  that they will be bringing a world-famous travelling venue to Derry~Londonderry for the six-day festival next month.

The Spiegeltent (Tent of Mirrors) was first designed in Belgium in the 1920’s and is a regular focal point of international festivals around the world. The Pan Celtic festival will mark the Spiegeltent’s first visit to Derry.

The Spiegeltent is built with over 3,000 pieces of wood, canvas, mirrors and stained glass, affording audiences a unique live music experience. This historic wooden tent is a genuinely special, exciting venue, which generates an unique and vibrant atmosphere by its very nature.
Spiegeltents have hosted some of the world’s greatest performing artists, such as Marlene Dietrich, who performed in the Spiegeltent during the 1930’s.

Typically associated with vaudeville, circus and cabaret acts, the Spiegeltent will play host to a yet-to-be-announced line-up of exceptional music acts for this year’s Pan Celtic festival, which crosses the border for the first time in its forty-three year history.

The festival will take place between the 22nd and 27th April, and is a celebration of the cultural links between the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany and the Isle of Man. The festival is the next major event on Derry’s Music City 2014 calendar, and is supported by the Legacy Fund.

Festival chairperson, Gearóid Ó hEára said: ‘The appetite for folk and celtic music in the city was palpable during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann last summer, and the Pan Celtic festival will be another opportunity for those who enjoyed the Fleadh to revel in the spirit of celtic celebration.’

Music fans can look forward to an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary music and dance when the programme launches in the coming days. The much-anticipated festival will include some familiar names and a few surprises.
