By a huge margin, Panama City Beach is the most popular spring break destination among U.S. students, according to a new survey conducted by TravelMag.com. In fact, the Floridian seaside vacation spot more than tripled the popularity of the second-place finisher.
The survey is based on an analyses of searches conducted on Google. Specifically, TravelMag.com compared how often the various destinations were typed into the search engine in combination with the keyword “Spring Break” during the months of February and March 2013.
So, for example, the total number of searches for “Panama City Spring Break” or “Las Vegas Spring Break” in combination with related searches, such as “PCB spring break” or “Vegas Spring Break” was established. This figure was then used to devise a Top 10 list.
With a total of 156,000 spring break related searches, Panama City Beach clearly leads the rankings. In the number two position Texas`s resort town of South Padre Island settled in with 51,200 searches. Meanwhile, Arizona`s Lake Havasu City rounded out the Top 3 with 35,400 searches.
Besides Panama City Beach, another three Floridian destinations made it into the Top 10: Daytona Beach, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale. With a total of 14,100 searches, Cancun ranked as the top foreign destination for American spring breakers.
