Abu Dhabi hotels show 30 per cent increase in occupancy this January

Hotels in Abu Dhabi have shown a remarkable 30 percent growth in occupancy in  January this year over last year this time in 2013. It was observed by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA) that around 277,000 guests checked into 149 hotels and hotel apartments.

The total revenue of the state climbed to 22 per cent to Dh522 million, with food and beverage recording a 21 per cent growth to approximately Dh194 million. The arrivals delivered 855,651 guest nights in the month, marking a 26 per cent increase over the same period last year. Occupancy for the month hit 77 per cent, a 10 per cent rise over January 2013, while the average room rate increased by two per cent to reach Dh462.

There were a number of holidays in January such as the international holiday seasons, numerous major events in the emirate, including the World Future Energy Summit, and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship which brought sizable visitation to Abu Dhabi. The guest target for this year was 3.1 million,  a result of last year’s record-breaking performance of 2.8 million guests.

The flow is going to remain upward with the Etihad Airways’ services between Jaipur, India and Abu Dhabi, and from Perth in Australia and Los Angeles and Dallas in the USA, the percentage visitation is said to rise. India alone brought 16,000 visitors with an increase of 29 per cent from last year with guests staying for just over four nights.

The number of Britons checking into Abu Dhabi hotels were 15,208— a 24 per cent growth over the same month last year. 11,000 Americans staying in the emirate’s hotels with a rise of 48 per cent leap on January 2013. , 773 Germans checked into Abu Dhabi’s accommodation — a 25 per cent year-on-year increase. Chinese arrivals were 9,751 which about 353 per cent this was definitely the major market stride. Chinese guests came to celebrate their New Year in Abu Dhabi. Kuwait too contributed with 2,000 Kuwaitis checking into the emirate’s hotels — a 76 per cent year-on-year increase.

This growth pattern is said to rise says, Christopher Hewett, senior consultant at TRI Hospitality Consulting. There has been a marked increase since 2013 and despite challenges in the market a growth of 3.1 million is certainly achievable.
