Carmen Riu, CEO of RIU, has signed an agreement to support the Asociación de Padres Unidos Pequeño Valiente.
Through this agreement, the hotel chain will contribute €12,000 to cover, for a year, the expenses of having a home near the Las Palmas Mother and Child Hospital in order to provide accommodation for those families who need to go to Las Palmas while their ill children receive treatment.
RIU found out about the remarkable work done by this association through its vice-president and co-founder, José Juan Jerez Castro, who works for RIU in Gran Canaria. He was accompanied by his daughter Julia and by Cristina García-Machín Angulo, the President of Pequeño Valiente, who signed the agreement with RIU on behalf of the association.
The Asociación de Padres Unidos Pequeño Valiente is a charity created by parents of children attending the Onco-hematology Department of the Las Palmas Mother and Child Hospital, with the aim of improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families.
This agreement is a step forward in the achievement of the goals established in RIUs Corporate Social Responsibility Strategic Plan, which, in terms of working with and helping the community, has identified the child health programme as a priority. That is why it supports different foundations, associations and hospitals that work with ill or disabled children.
Pequeño Valiente has been registered in the Canary Island Register of Associations since February 2007. In May 2009, it joined the Spanish Federation of Parents of Children with Cancer, which was awarded the 2013 prize for the Best Patient Support Organisation by the Fundación Tecnología y Salud.
