Another facilitation for passengers - LOT introduces the flight mode

From Monday 17th February, LOT passengers may use their personal electronic devices (PED) on board LOT aircraft in the so-called flight mode.  For travellers convenience, these devices may be kept switched on throughout the journey (including take-off and landing)!
LOT Polish Airlines introduce the new solution from 17 February 2014. Enabling the flight mode (also known as the airplane or offline mode) in electronic devices means that the passenger may use all the functionalities of phones, tablets, MP3 players or cameras, etc., but without the possibility to use the cellular signal (i.e. for example  making calls
or sending SMSes). This also applies to take-off and landing.
We believe it is a nice surprise for our passengers. From Monday on, pursers on all flights will inform passengers in Polish and in English about a possibility to use personal electronic devices in the so-called flight mode.  Board announcements, recorded and played back
in other languages, will be also gradually modified. We expect positive reactions of our passengers, because that it is a good decision and a huge facilitation, which will increase the comfort of their flight - says Barbara Pijanowska-Kuras, spokesperson of LOT Polish Airlines.
This is another solution of the Polish carrier, which - under the new communication style: "You set the course", and within the framework of efforts to modernise the offer - adapts its services to the expectations and needs of passengers. Also crucial argument to allow the use of portable electronic devices on board LOT aircraft while in flight was a decision of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA ), which allowed airlines to take such decision. According to EASA, the use of electronics on-board planes does not affect aircraft  operation provided that flight mode is switched on.

As a reminder, so far passengers had to turn off their personal electronic devices for take-off, landing, and when the "buckle up" signal was enabled on the board. From Monday, electronics may be switched on in "flight mode" (non-transmitting mode) throughout the journey. It will be thus possible e.g. to read a book on an electronic reader, work or play
on a laptop, or view photos on one's own phone during take-off and landing.
