Lufthansa sets punctuality record in 2013

In 2013, Lufthansa recorded the best figures for punctuality in the Company’s history.

More than 85 per cent of all departing flights left the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time. This 15-minute window represents the industry standard for measuring punctuality. The reliability of transfer connections and baggage services also improved further. The proportion of transfer passengers who missed their connecting flight or who did not receive their luggage as planned at their destination was barely more than one per cent. Punctuality and reliability are among the most important features that passengers expect from Lufthansa as an international network carrier.

This performance was achieved despite the construction work on the apron for the satellite building at Munich Airport – one of Europe’s biggest construction sites – and the very strict night-flight ban in Frankfurt. Operations at the north-west runway in Frankfurt, which was opened in 2011, continue to have a positive impact.

The 2013 figures for both Lufthansa hubs stand up very well in an international comparison. The airline expects both Frankfurt and Munich to be in the top tier of European airports, as indicated by figures from the Association of European Airlines (AEA), which has published its analyses for January to November last year.

Germanwings passengers also benefited from punctual flights. Last December, the airline even recorded punctuality figures of more than 90 per cent, thereby consolidating its leading position among European low-cost airlines.
