A record number of new countries at the Nordic Travel Fair Matka

In January the Nordic Travel Fair Matka introduces 12 new countries. Even the most experienced traveler will find inspiration from such destinations as Turkmenistan and Lesotho.

The event is open 16 - 19 January and it introduces more than 80 countries and approximately 1000 exhibitors.

This time the Matka fair takes visitors on a tour to the Latin America with Mexico and Argentina on display. Mexico is the world's largest Spanish speaking country and it offers everything from the ancient Maya culture to white sandy beaches. The artlovers are pampered by the veloptuous colours and vivid imagery of such artists as Frida Kahlo. Mexico also offers ready made trips for the carefree traveller. The never ending white beaches of Cancun and Playa del Carmen have offered relaxation for thousands of tourists over the years.

The South American Argentina is the land of flaming tango and eternal ice. Argentina is a destination for the pleasure-seeking tourist. The wineries of the Mendoza province and the world famous beef cattle built a basis for the exquisite food culture. Those seeking romance can head to the capital Buenos Aires as the atmosphere there leaves no-one cold. In the southern parts of the country travelers can find glaciers that are only a short maritime voyage away from the South Pole.

Sharing a border with, for example, Iran and Afghanistan, Turkmenistan is a new destination for many travelers. This former Soviet country is mostly covered by the Karakum desert. The traditionally nomad country takes pride in its skillfully made oriental rugs. Flights to this remote destination depart from Istanbul, Frankfurt and Saint Petersburg, to mention a few.

Lesotho is a small and intriguing country surrounded by South Africa. This country of two million residents has a mild climate, which is in the summer perfect for, for example, rock climbing or hiking. Lesotho has one of the few ski resorts of the whole African continent. The runs are open also during the South African winter season from June to August. The easiest way to get to Lesotho is through South Africa from where also daytrips are made.

The Nordic Travel Fair Matka is the largest travel event in Northern Europe and is organised 16 – 19 January 2014 at Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki. It introduces travel destinations from Finland and around the world. The event is open for the professionals of the travel industry on Thursday 16 January from 9 am to 7 pm and on Friday 17 January from 9 am to noon. Matka and Caravan are open to the general public on Friday from noon to 7 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
