SAN ANTONIO—A local landmark from 1883 to 2001, the historic Pearl Brewery Brewhouse is now being renovated into the Hotel Pearl, operated by Kimpton Hotels.
Based on design work by three: living architecture, the hotel will include 146 guestrooms, dining, social and meeting spaces with interiors that celebrate the culture and character of South Texas and Pearl.
“Hotel Pearl has been one of the most challenging—yet personally rewarding endeavors of my 39 years practicing architecture,” stated Gary Koerner, founder and president of three, and also lead designer for the project. “The wonderful grittiness associated with the original architectural fabric of the Pearl Brewhouse has been seamlessly infused with the luxury and personality that will become the hallmark of Hotel Pearl.”
Silver Ventures, Inc., a San Antonio investment firm, engaged three to design the renovation of the original Pearl property and add a new guestroom tower. Opening of the new project is slated for summer of 2014.
“We have a 15-year relationship with three: living architecture, and Pearl is our third major hotel project with them,” stated Bill Shown, managing director of real estate for Silver Ventures, Inc. “They have extensive, world-wide hospitality experience and a deep understanding of what it takes to make a great hotel. We can’t imagine developing a hotel without them at our side.”
three: living architecture is also the designer of The Westin Riverwalk and Hotel Contessa in San Antonio.
