This is the most popular diving destination in the Maldives .
Typically, it has a very weak current so is suitable for inexperienced divers
as well as the seasoned professionals. It boasts a great range of aquatic life
and its most famous attraction is its abundance of white-tip sharks.
2. Barracuda Point, Sipadan Island , Malaysia
Diving at Barracuda Point is a must for all underwater fanatics.
Prepare to be transported to another dimension as you delve deep into the fast
currents and lay your eyes on thousands of barracudas moving in a tornado-like
fashion.
3. SS Thistlegorm, Red Sea , Egypt
A perfect combination of diving and time travel – The SS
Thistlegorm wasbombed and sunk by the Germans in World War II and has remained
on the bed of the Red Sea for over 60 years.
The vessel still remains very much intact, holding trucks, motorbikes and guns
within its cargo. Along with this, the dive showcases lots of wildlife,
including lionfish, scorpionfish and sea turtles.
4. Richelieu Rock, Surin Islands,
This is one of the best diving sites in Thailand – the site is situated right in the
middle of the Andaman
Sea , closest areas
include Phuket (200km) and Khao Lok (70km). It is rarely reachable as a day
trip destination and therefore mainly used by liveaboards that pass the site on
their route. Experienced guides will prepare you for the strong currents at the
30 to 35 metre
depth and let you explore the wonders of this whale shark and manta ray hotspot
5. Shark Cage Diving, Gansbaai,
Dyer Island , a few kilometres from
Gansbaai, is home to 50,000 seals, penguins and seabirds, making it a perfect
playground for hundreds of Great White Sharks. The diving excursion will take
up between 3 to 5 hours and gives divers an opportunity to see up to five Great
Whites at a given time – extremely lucky divers have seen up to eighteen! The
excursion can be viewed from the surface of the boat or in an underwater cage
(for the daredevils amongst us).
6. North Horn, Osprey Reef, Australia
North Horn is known for its fantastic diving conditions, clear waters and wonderful visibility of more than 40m. Like Gansbaai, Osprey Reef is known for it vast shark population. Divers can expect to see many species of the Great Barrier Reef’s sharks, including grey sharks, silvertip sharks, white-tip sharks and if your lucky – the elusive hammerhead shark!
