TEMPE,
ARIZ. - US
Airways customers
now have convenient access to a second destination in Ireland as the
airline begins daily, non-stop, summer service from its international
gateway at Philadelphia today following a four-year hiatus. The
airline will operate flights to the "Gateway to the West of
Ireland" on 176-seat dual-class Boeing 757-200 aircraft until
Sept. 6, 2013. The seasonal service complements US Airways' existing
flights to Dublin, which the airline serves year-round from
Philadelphia and during the summer from its largest hub in Charlotte,
N.C.
"Ireland is an important destination for our customers and the return of non-stop service between Philadelphia and Shannon provides travelers with an additional option to reach the Emerald Isle," saidSuzanne Boda, US Airways' senior vice president, Airport Customer Service, International and Cargo. "US Airways customers in Shannon will also have one-stop service throughout the United States from our international gateway at Philadelphia."
"We are delighted today to see US Airways back on the runway at Shannon with the Philadelphia service. We have no doubt that it will be a very popular route at Shannon," said Rose Hynes, Shannon Airport chairman. "Philadelphia's appeal is heightened by the fact that it is a hub airport for US Airways, with onward connections to more than 100 cities across the United States."
As an added convenience, customers can clear U.S. immigration and customs before departing Shannon, allowing for a quick and efficient arrival experience at Philadelphia International Airport. Customers who receive pre-clearance at Shannon Airport arrive as domestic passengers, are able to check their baggage through to their final destination and ultimately reduce the amount of time needed to connect to their next flight.
