SWISS launches new direct service from Singapore

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) launches its new daily non-stop service between Singapore and Zurich, Switzerland.
The new service, LX 179 will take off from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal2, operated by an Airbus A340-300 aircraft. This vital air link further enhances ties between the two strong business and financial centres in Europe and Southeast Asia. It also provides convenient flight connections for travelers to Europe and beyond.
SWISS, the national airline of Switzerland, now connects Singapore with Zurich seven times a week. The new non-stop service, which was launched today, is operated with Airbus A340-300 equipment seating 219 passengers in a three-class cabin configuration. SWISS’s A340s are also fitted with the company’s state-of-the-art Business Class cabin, whose adjustable-air-cushion seat which converts into a two-metre-long lie-flat bed offers customers optimum comfort aloft.
Convenient double-night connection
With our daily non-stop services between Singapore and Switzerland we want to meet the growing travel needs of both business and leisure travellers between our countries,” emphasized SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister on the occasion of the first flight. “Our double-night service perfectly complements our Star Alliance partners’ offer and we are delighted to now bring the best of service, products and hospitality from Switzerland to Singapore.”
SWISS’s flight LX 179 departs from Singapore at 23:10 and arrives in Zurich at 06:10 the following day. In Zurich, passengers can conveniently and promptly connect to up to 35 European destinations as well as to attractive destinations at the East Coast of the United States of America like New York or Miami. The eastbound LX 178 service leaves Zurich at 22:45 and lands in Singapore at 17:15 the next day.
Tailor-made airfreight solutions
The opening of Singapore also offers major opportunities for the Swiss WorldCargo business unit. “We’re very proud to reconnect our global network to one of Asia’s most vibrant economic powerhouses,” comments Oliver Evans, Chief Cargo Officer. “Like Switzerland, Singapore is known for its quality, reliability and productivity. And our customers on this new route can be sure of receiving all the tailor-made airfreight solutions and high-grade service that they have come to expect from Swiss WorldCargo.”
Strong demand for Switzerland as a leisure and business destination
Over the last 3 years tourism arrivals from South East Asia to Switzerland have shown an increase of around 30%. “We expect a further positive quantitative impact of an additional 5 – 10% growth from this region and Australia due to the new direct SWISS flight” predicts Urs Eberhard, Executive Vice President of Switzerland Tourism, the national tourism office of Switzerland. “This new SWISS service will strengthen the position of Switzerland as an ideal and easy-to-reach vacation and incentive destination.”
