Lenovo
and 3rd Planet, an interactive 3D travel online media have signed an
memorandum of understanding to explore ways in which the tourism
industry can brand themselves on Lenovo's devices.
Tourism organisations participating in the Wonders of the World project, can now be part of the Wonders of the World application (app) made available to Lenovo's consumers. The app allows consumers to explore their preferred vacation destinations virtually in a realistic, interactive 3D environment. Coupled with useful features, this app lets users share the 3D scenes with their friends and families though Facebook, Twitter, Renren and Weibo.
For the 13th quarter in a row, Lenovo was the fastest growing among the major PC vendors. In the "smart connected devices*", Lenovo is now the world's third largest maker of PCs, smartphones and tablets globally. Lenovo will make this app available through their latest range of devices, starting from the first quarter of 2014.
Tech-savvy and affluent consumers, who can afford to purchase the latest technology devices, are the ideal target audience for most tourism organisations, as they are likely to stay longer and spend more for their vacations.
Said Mr Terence Mak, CEO of 3rd Planet, "With this partnership, tourism organisations participating in the WOW project will now have additional branding opportunities. We will work with Lenovo to provide customised apps on the various operating systems within Lenovo's range of products for the particular tourism organisation, featuring its brand and slogan, and direct users to the exact interactive 3D scene page of the country or city. Tourism organisations can also choose the specific markets they want to reach out to."
"Consumers will be given a stunning visual treat of how their desired travel destinations look like through our interactive 3D platform, seen through the devices of one of the best selling PC brands in the world," Mr Mak added.
Howie Lau, VP Marketing & Communication, Lenovo Asia Pacific, added, "As a technology leader, we want to empower our customers with innovative products and content. These customers are curious and impatient to explore the world around them. Our involvement in the WOW project will certainly get our users constantly engaged and edutained, giving Lenovo a unique edge in the global PC market."
Lenovo shipped 52 million ** personal computers (2012) and will make the Wonders of the World travel app available from the first quarter of 2014.
