Hotelbeds announces partnership with European Commission for “50,000 Tourists” initiative


SAO PAULO / MALLORCA – Hotelbeds, the global accommodation wholesaler, has signed a declaration with the European Commission to participate in the “50,000 Tourists” initiative, a project to increase the flow of tourists between Europe and South America in the low season.
Hotelbeds, founded in Spain in 2001, rapidly built its presence across Europe, providing sun and beach and city accommodation to international travelers and then expanded into a global business through the promotion of international destinations to its European client base and building a local presence across the Americas and Asia. Hotelbeds is now the travel trades most successful global accommodation provider supplying over 50,000 hotels to the travel industry including airlines, tour operators and travel agents.
As the largest global accommodation wholesaler, Hotelbeds will actively raise awareness of the “50,000 Tourists” pilot experience to its clients in South America and Europe. The “50,000 Tourists” project aims to promote low-season travel by making use of available spare airline and accommodation capacity to extend the seasonal spread of tourism boosting jobs and benefiting the local host economies.
In South America, Hotelbeds already has a significant presence, with over 100 source markets bringing customers into the region. Brazil remains the most popular South American destination for Hotelbeds’ inbound clients followed by Argentina and Chile. Rio de Janeiro, followed by Sao Paulo, Salvador da Bahia, Fortaleza, Natal, Recife and Brasilia are the most popular destinations. Brazil will continue being part of the top growing destinations for Hotelbeds as the company plans to double its hotel product portfolio by the end of 2013.
