The European Low Fares Airlines Association (ELFAA), on behalf of our 200million European passengers, urges the European Parliament to defend proven European safety rules, against misinformed calls to tinker with the safe and stable EC flight time limitation system (Subpart Q). This system is the outcome of more than a decade’s work by Parliament, in consultation with safety regulators, airlines and pilots - and which was implemented by EC Regulation 1899 in 2008.
The current EC Subpart Q system is safe, proven by experience and endorsed by leading authorities, including Dr Mark Rosekind (formerly NASA and now US National Transportation Safety Board) and by those pilots who actually operate under Subpart Q.
This safe and stable system, which has been put in place by Parliament in consultation with safety regulators, airlines and pilots, must be protected from lifestyle-driven, unscientific tampering - and we look to the European Parliament to ensure this is the case.
