Bulgaria Tourism Statistics for first 6 months of 2012


Trips of Bulgarian residents abroad in June 2012 were 361.3 thousand or 3.7% more than May and by 9.9% over the registered in June 2011, reported the press service of the Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Increase in trips of Bulgarian residents compared to the same month last year was registered to: Spain - by 122.8%, Italy - by 112.9%, Macedonia - 68.9%, Austria - by 42.0%, and others. At the same time reduce trips to Serbia - by 28.4% and Greece - by 16.0%.
The largest share of total trips of Bulgarian residents abroad this form for other purposes (visits, training, visits to cultural and sporting events) - 40.2%, followed by trips and trip - 34.9%, and an official target - 24.9%. Compared to June 2011 increase was observed in all trips and excursions, as well as those with other goals – by 65.2 and 23.2%, while the decrease was in business travel - by 33.1%.
In June 2012, other targets were 63.7% of trips to Serbia, 56.6% - to Britain, and 52.6% - to Italy. The majority of trips to Spain and Turkey for holiday or excursion - respectively 43.2 and 42.1%, while Russia and Germany are connected with professional purpose - respectively 42.5 and 42.0% of all trips of Bulgarian citizens to these countries.
In June 2012 arrivals of visitors to Bulgaria are 1 116.6 thousand, up 84.3 percent more than in May 2012 and by 5.5% higher than in June 2011. Registered an increase in visits all observed targets with the largest e growth in visits with professional purpose - 8.3%, followed by recreation and recreation - 7.4%, and for other purposes - 0.8%.
The largest share of the total number of foreigners visiting Bulgaria, citizens formed the European Union - 56.9%, followed by those from other European countries - 33.3%. Compared to the same month last year arrivals of citizens from countries - members of the European Union decreased by 3.6%. Greater reductions were seen in the arrivals of citizens from Greece - 14.9% of Britain - by 11.4%, and Austria - by 10.9%. However, growth was recorded in arrivals of citizens from the Netherlands - 14.8% and Italy - by 14.6%.
Increased visits by citizens from the "Other European countries" 1 - 25.1%, with the greatest increase in visits by citizens of Ukraine and Russia - by 60.5 and 34.1%.
In June 2012 the predominant share of visits are for rest and recreation - 60.4%, followed by those with other purposes (including visits and transit) - 29.6%, and professional purpose - 10.0%.
Visits to rest and recreation composed 81.0 percent of visits by citizens from Russia, 79.6% - from Ukraine, 78.3% - from Britain, 75.3 percent - of the Republic of Macedonia, and 71.8% - from Greece.
Business travel is 22.7% of all visits to the citizens of Belgium and 20.3% - from Austria and other targets are 81.6% of visits by citizens of Turkey
