Malaysia – ASEAN’s Second Largest Outbound Market


Arrivals from Malaysia to Asia Pacific are ASEAN’s second largest following Singapore, with nearly nine million arrivals in 2011. The neighboring destinations have been the primary beneficiaries, accounting for 62% of total Malaysian trips within Asia Pacific. Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore remain are in the top five destinations for Malaysians ranked by visitor volume.

Northeast Asia is the second preferred choice for Malaysians, representing 32% of arrivals. While China and Hong Kong SAR have continued to capture the lion’s share for the Northeast Asia sub-region, Chinese Taipei and Korea (ROK) also deserve a mention as they were star performers with strong double-digit growth from 2006 to 2011.
