What is the experience?
The Untamed Wilderness Camp is an intimate luxury wilderness retreat in the heart of one of India’s celebrated tiger landscapes. Set near Bandhavgarh National Park, the camp combines comfortable tented accommodation with guided wildlife trips in a forest and hill area known for Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, deer and more than 250 bird species. The ancient Bandhavgarh Fort, estimated at around 2,000 years old that overlooks the national park, is an additional attraction.
Where is it?
The camp is in Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh, in the vicinity of Bandhavgarh National Park, midway between Luckknow and Nagpur cities, around a 11-hour drive from Delhi.
How to get there?
The nearest major airport is Jabalpur Airport, approximately three hours by road from Bandhavgarh. Guests can also travel via Katni or Umaria, both of which have rail connections. Private road transfers can be arranged to and from the camp, making the journey into the wilderness part of the experience.
Who is it for?
For wildlife enthusiasts, first-time safari travellers, couples, families, photographers and nature lovers. It also suits travellers interested in combining wildlife with the history, culture and landscapes of central India. It is for people who value experience over extravagance.
What are the three things I must do there?
Take a guided wildlife spotting safari through Bandhavgarh National Park with experienced naturalists and explore its forest and grassland habitats. Make time for an outdoor dining experience after sunset. Sit around the campfire, stargaze and listen to the forest.
What should I eat there?
Try the Baiga selection a tribal thali served under the Mahua tree celebrating the flavours of the Baiga community of Bandhavgarh, including Raai Bhaaji (mustard vegetable), Lauki Chana Daal (bottle gourd cooked with lentils), Desi Chicken (local style chicken with herbs), Matha (tempered yoghurt), Makke ki Roti (maize chapati), home-made pickles and sauces.
Also the Gond Rasoi flavours of the region inspired by the culinary heritage of the Gond tribe. Enjoy Bhuna Mutton Tari (slow and smoked cooked goat meat), Baigan Chokha (charred eggplant mashed and seasoned), Cheela (rice chapati), Laal Bhaji (amaranth), and Udad ka Bara (lentil fritters), all served with home-made condiments.
How responsible and sustainable are glamping operations there?
TUTC is working towards more responsible operations through tree planting, pond restoration, water recharge and wildlife waterholes. The camp also uses solar power, natural materials, an organic kitchen garden, treated wastewater for landscaping and is reducing single-use plastic wherever practical.
Does the local community benefit from my stay?
More than 80% of the camp’s staff come from nearby villages and towns, with an emphasis on local hiring, training and skills development. TUTC also sources from regional suppliers and supports local schoolchildren through sports activities and wildlife conservation awareness.
Is there a special offer I can use for my visit?
For the reopening from 1 October 2026, TUTC is offering returning guests 15% off rack rates, 10% off spa services, and one venue dining experience within the campsite per stay.
What are booking and stay periods?
The Untamed Wilderness Camp reopens on 1 October 2026 for the Bandhavgarh wildlife season and generally operates until 31 May, subject to national park regulations and seasonal operating conditions.
