Ει βούλει καλώς ακούειν, μάθε καλώς λέγειν, μαθών δε καλώς λέγειν, πειρώ καλώς πράττειν, και ούτω καρπώση το καλώς ακούειν. (Επίκτητος)

New real-time map tracks trains across Europ

Travelers heading across Europe by rail have a new way to keep tabs on their journeys, thanks to a live train map covering France, Spain and Belgium.

Launched in August, TrainTracker24 provides a real-time view of rail traffic, showing active trains, delays, cancellations and punctuality. Users can zoom, rotate and explore the map, while filters allow them to focus on individual countries or rail operators.

The platform also covers Eurostar and Italy’s Frecciarossa services, while additional filters provide information about rail infrastructure. Travelers can identify stations without rail service, stations connected to high-speed lines and facilities that are operating but currently closed to the public.

A live snapshot of rail performance

The platform offers constantly updated rankings of the most delayed trains and disrupted stations, potentially giving travelers an early warning when journeys begin to go off schedule.

Users who know their train number can search for a specific service and see its scheduled journey, previous runs and current location. Searches can also cover departures, arrivals, punctuality and station facilities across France, limited areas in Germany, Spain and Belgium.

TrainTracker24 refreshes its network data every 20 seconds. Basic access is free. Premium features include personalized journey maps, live disruption information, sorting options based on delays and additional details about tracks and railway infrastructure.

The platform relies on open data supplied by rail operators, regional authorities and infrastructure managers, covering timetables, real-time movements and disruption updates.

TrainTracker24 says it plans to expand its coverage further across Europe.

It is entering an increasingly crowded market for live rail tracking. TrainTracker.live offers free train positions, timetables and punctuality information across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, while TrainsTracking combines live data with fare comparisons and links to official operator booking pages across 76 countries.

For UK-focused travelers, SignalBox provides live information on British trains and rail networks.

The concept will also be familiar to air travelers. Like Flightradar24, which lets users follow aircraft around the world, these rail platforms turn complex transport networks into a live, interactive map.
