Air France celebrates 25 years of intermodal Air&Rail product between Brussels-Midi/Zuid station and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport

Air France is celebrating a milestone today: 25 years of high-speed connection between Brussels-Midi/Zuid station and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

Since 2001, Air France has pioneered a partnership with rail operators, offering customers a unique cross-border combined air–rail service that blends performance, comfort, and low-carbon mobility. This Air&Rail offering is part of an intermodal development initiative launched over 30 years ago, with the debut in 1995 of the very first air-rail product, allowing travelers to combine their flights and train journeys within a single reservation. This historic collaboration has grown and evolved over the decades to meet customers’ evolving expectations and address the challenges of decarbonizing mobility.

Air France was one of the first airlines to integrate international train travel into its air transport offering. Over the past 25 years, the airline has enabled more than 4 million customers to travel between Belgium and its global network, through over 100,000 high-speed rail connections.

The TGV station at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport is located at the heart of terminal 2 for easy and fast access. Air France’s global hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport offers connections to nearly 200 destinations with over 800 flights per day.

A seamless and attentive travel experience

For a quarter century, Air France has provided customers with a single booking for their complete journey - including both train and flight - giving access to the airline’s worldwide network and that of its partners.

Travelers enjoy numerous benefits:

  • A single ticket for the entire journey;
  • First-class comfort aboard TGV-trains between Brussels-Midi/Zuid station and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport;
  • Checked baggage from Brussels-Midi/train station all the way to the final destination;

  • A digital journey with online check-in available at airfrance.be starting 30 hours before departure (24 hours for flights to the United States).

In addition, Flying Blue loyalty program members enjoy exclusive benefits: earning Miles for the train segment, priority access through SkyPriority*, access to the Eurostar Premier Lounge at Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, and free seat selection on the train.

“ Intermodality has long been a central pillar of Air France’s decarbonization strategy. Thanks to the Air&Rail service departing from Brussels-Midi/Zuid station, our customers benefit from a travel solution combining high-speed rail and air travel, enabling easy access to Paris-Charles de Gaulle ariport while reducing their carbon footprint. This offering helps provide low-carbon mobility alternatives and

facilitates travel between Belgium and Air France’s global network.” — Vincent Etchebehere, Director of Sustainable Development and New Mobility at Air France.

In addition to intermodality, Air France’s decarbonization strategy is based on:

  • Fleet renewal, with the integration of new-generation aircraft such as the Airbus A220 and A350;
  • The incorporation of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF);
  • Eco-piloting, which includes all actions by flight crews to reduce fuel consumption.
