The 2027 itineraries are scheduled during peak seasonal conditions for wildlife viewing, Northern Lights visibility, and Arctic landscapes. Each voyage is limited to 12 guests, aiming to provide access to locations beyond the reach of larger cruise vessels.
The expedition format is designed to prioritise exploration with minimal
environmental impact. With a reduced passenger count, itineraries allocate
extended time for shore landings, zodiac operations, and navigation of remote fjords
that are inaccessible to larger ships.
“Our new 2027 season is built on the belief that ‘small’ means ‘more’ –
more flexibility, more shore time, and a much smaller environmental footprint.
With just 12 guests onboard MV Vikingfjord and MV Freya, our new voyages offer
access to remote areas inaccessible to the larger cruise ships. It’s
high-impact exploration while enjoying the comfort of our purpose-built
expedition vessels,” said Michele D’Agostino, Co-Founder of Secret Atlas.
Among the newly announced itineraries is the Svalbard Circumnavigation Micro Cruise, sailing on 28 July and 15 August 2027. The 12-day expedition will explore remote areas of the archipelago, including the Austfonna ice cap, with opportunities to observe walrus haulouts and search sea ice for polar bears.
Also included is the Svalbard and Greenland Summer Micro Cruise, departing
on 8 August 2027. This 14-day voyage combines Svalbard with East Greenland,
including exploration of Scoresbysund, the world’s largest fjord system, and
observation of regional wildlife such as musk oxen, Arctic foxes, Arctic hares,
and marine species.
Both itineraries include onboard accommodation, full-board meals and
beverages, satellite internet access, expedition activities, specialist gear
for shore landings, and local transfers. International flights are not
included.
The 2027 voyages will depart from Longyearbyen and operate aboard the
purpose-built expedition vessels MV Vikingfjord and MV Freya, which feature ensuite cabins, a panoramic
lounge, sauna facilities, and an on-deck hot tub.
