Destination Global authorities issue highest travel warnings for Venezuela amid escalating conflict

Major international governments, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, have escalated travel warnings for Venezuela to the highest levels following significant military developments in early January 2026.

According to official advisories, military actions reported on January 3, 2026, targeting sites near Caracas and major coastal states, prompted authorities to declare a “state of external commotion”. These developments have placed the aviation sector on heightened alert.

In response to the security situation, aviation authorities issued emergency notices advising airlines to avoid Venezuelan airspace. The warnings cite elevated risks linked to active air defense systems and unpredictable military activity, raising concerns over flight safety in the region.

The United States maintains a Level 4 travel advisory, advising against all travel to Venezuela. The advisory warns of arbitrary detentions and states that emergency services cannot be provided, as diplomatic operations remain suspended.

The United Kingdom has also advised against all travel, referring to risks associated with potential border closures and internal instability.

Canada and Australia have urged their citizens currently in Venezuela to shelter in place, ensure adequate supplies of food and water, and prepare for sudden disruptions to departure options.

Authorities note that commercial flight availability is becoming increasingly limited, and travelers have been advised to remain alert to official updates as the situation continues to evolve.
