Booking.com reveals US business travel hubs now facing losses as demand drops

Booking.com for Business has released new data showing that several major US cities are bracing for financial losses as business travel demand declines in 2025. The findings come amid rising travel costs, tariffs and trade tensions that have contributed to a significant contraction in cross-border corporate travel. The most notable drop is seen in UK-to-US demand, which fell by 25.67% in the first half of the year.

The analysis is based on accommodation bookings made through the platform and highlights the destinations that attracted the highest business travel volumes in 2025. These cities now face potential economic pressure as corporate travel budgets shrink and event attendance decreases.

New York remains the top market, despite softening demand

New York generated the highest volume of corporate bookings over the past year. As home to major financial, political and technology institutions, the city typically benefits from global travel flows linked to Wall Street, the United Nations and the tech sector. Its extensive transportation infrastructure and range of event facilities, including the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, have supported its position as a leading global hub. The complex hosts 120 events annually and offers 102 meeting rooms and 10 halls across a footprint spanning six city blocks.

Las Vegas holds steady while preparing for expansion

Las Vegas ranked second. While leisure tourism slowed in 2025, business travel demand remained stable. The city is supported by its large-scale convention infrastructure and extensive hotel inventory. The USD 600 million expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, reinforcing the city’s ability to attract major events. Las Vegas also continues to host high-profile showcases such as CES, strengthened by new attractions including The Sphere.

San Francisco stabilises through strong meetings and events activity

San Francisco’s meetings and events sector provided resilience in 2025. The Moscone Center hosted 34 events this year, generating 657,000 hotel room nights—an increase of 64% compared with 2024. The wider region benefits from the presence of Silicon Valley’s technology and finance industries, attracting corporate travellers who also take advantage of the city’s leisure offerings, supporting the rise of bleisure travel.

Additional insights from the study

Chicago stands out for its aviation connectivity. According to OAGChicago O’Hare International Airport is the most connected airport in the US and seventh globally, offering more than 65,000 connections to 297 destinations at peak.

Orlando maintains its dominant position in the meetings and events sector. Cvent ranked it the number one US city for meetings in 2025, supported by dedicated convention infrastructure and four connected hotels.

Miami demonstrates strong entrepreneurial activity. Florida has the highest rate of new business formations in the US, with 13,238 small businesses per 100,000 residents, which supports steady corporate travel linked to start-ups and SMEs.

The findings highlight shifting global corporate travel patterns and point to challenges for destinations that have traditionally relied on steady business travel flows. As economic conditions and cost pressures persist, destinations may need to diversify demand drivers, strengthen event strategies and adapt to evolving expectations in the corporate travel market.
