ITA Airways launches new direct Mauritius–Rome route to boost tourism and connectivity

ITA Airways has launched a new nonstop service connecting Mauritius with Rome Fiumicino, marking a strategic expansion of its intercontinental network ahead of the Winter 2025–2026 season. The inaugural flight landed at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport at 11:20 a.m. local time and was celebrated with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by government officials, aviation representatives, tourism partners, and ITA Airways executives.

The new route strengthens connectivity between Italy and Mauritius, creating new opportunities for tourism cooperation and travel trade growth. The service is operated with the airline’s Airbus A330-900neo, featuring a three-class configuration and offering enhanced onboard comfort, Italian hospitality, and modern in-flight services.

“The inaugural flight of ITA Airways to Mauritius marks not only the arrival of a new airline but also the strengthening of a long-standing and cherished friendship between Mauritius and Italy,” said Christian Harold Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism. “Thanks to this direct connection, I am confident that more and more Italians will come to discover the magic of Mauritius. We look forward to working closely with ITA Airways, with our local tourism partners, and with Italian tourism professionals to promote this route and ensure its success.”

ITA Airways expects the new route to support both leisure and business travel demand, as Mauritius continues to position itself as a key tourism destination and a regional logistics hub. The island also offers strong cargo potential, supported by diversified sectors including agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech industries.

“We are proud to be here today and launch the new nonstop flight from Rome to Mauritius,” said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare. “We are confident that this route will strengthen the ties between Italy and Mauritius, boost travel, and pave the way for future collaborations between our two countries. Intercontinental routes are a cornerstone of our growth strategy, combining seamless connectivity with the elegance, comfort, and hospitality that define the premium Italian travel experience.”

The Mauritius–Rome route will operate twice weekly. Departures from Mauritius will take place every Saturday and Monday at 10:10 p.m., arriving in Rome at 6:40 a.m. Return flights will leave Rome every Friday and Sunday at 10:00 p.m., arriving in Mauritius at 11:20 a.m. the following day. Through Rome Fiumicino, passengers will have access to seamless connections across ITA Airways’ domestic, regional, and long-haul network.

During Winter 2025–2026, ITA Airways will serve 53 destinations, including 16 domestic, 21 international, and 16 intercontinental routes across the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Highlights of the season include the return of daily Rome–Malé (Maldives) service over the peak festive period and increased frequencies to Bangkok and Buenos Aires.

The addition of Mauritius reinforces ITA Airways’ positioning as a global ambassador of Made in Italy, reflected in its cabin design, menus created by Michelin-starred chefs, and uniforms developed under the artistic direction of Brunello Cucinelli. For travel trade professionals, the new route provides expanded choices for leisure travel packaging, multi-destination itineraries, and premium long-haul travel experiences to the Indian Ocean.
