Katowice Airport: Six companies in tender procedure for designer of central passenger terminal

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland, has concluded verification of applications for admission to participate in the procedure for selecting the designer of the central passenger terminal. The procedure, announced in October 2024, is carried out in the mode of a competitive dialogue, based on negotiations with potential contractors.

Verification of applications to participate in the tender concluded in August 2025. The following entities have qualified to the next part of the tender (alphabetical order):

  • ARTELIA, Société par actions simplifiée (France) – consortium leader.
Consortium partners: ARTELIA AIRPORTS, Société anonyme à conseil d’administration (France), B-ACT SPÓŁKA AKCYJNA (Poland), Transprojekt Gdański sp. z o.o. (Poland)
  • Estudio Lamela SLP (Spain).
  • Foster + Partners Limited (United Kingdom).
  • JSK ARCHITEKCI sp. z o.o. (Poland) – consortium leader.
Consortium partner: Zaha Hadid Limited (United Kingdom).
  • One Works SpA (Italy) – consortium leader.
    Consortium partner: Manens SpA (Italy).
  • PIG Architekci sp. z o.o. (Poland).

The qualified contractors will be invited to the negotiation part of the competitive dialogue. The tender procedure conducted in the form of a competitive dialogue will conclude with the selection of the designer of the new passenger terminal and the signing of an agreement, which is planned for mid-2026.

The construction of the central passenger terminal is the largest project planned under the Katowice Airport investment program for the years 2024–2032. At the same time, it is the largest single project in the airport’s history, both in terms of financial outlays and scale.

The contractor selected through the tender procedure will be responsible for preparing the design documentation for the construction of a passenger terminal equipped with jet bridges.

The scope of work will also include the preparation of documentation for:

  • expansion of the airside area, including the construction of an aircraft parking apron in the vicinity of the main terminal, as well as reconstruction of taxiways: Alpha, Echo 2 and Echo 3;
  • development of a new road system with a Kiss & Fly area and a parking system
  • construction of a transfer centre.
  • construction of a connector between the new terminal and “Pyrzowice Lotnisko” (Katowice Airport) railway station and the transfer centre.
  • connection of the project with road 913.

Additionally, the contractor will prepare a phasing plan for the individual construction work, taking into account the existing infrastructure. The designer’s task will also include developing a concept for the further expansion of the new passenger terminal, depending on the growth of passenger traffic.

The dynamic growth in traffic necessitates the construction of the central passenger terminal. According to the current forecast, by the end of this decade, Katowice Airport may serve as many as 10M passengers annually. Thanks to the new terminal, we will be able to meet the demands of an increasing number of passengers. It will also enable an improvement in the standard of passenger service,” said Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of The Upper Silesian Aviation Group.
