It comes as the airport added more lanes and eight high definition CT scanners, enabling all passengers to avoid removing items from bags.
Edinburgh Airport is the first airport in Scotland to scrap the rule.
Birmingham Airport has also lifted the restrictions with it’s the installation of new high tech scanners.
The new equipment has cost Edinburgh Airport about £24 million.
As well as liquids, passengers do not need to remove digital devices like tablets and laptops from bags.
Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport CEO said it should significantly speed up the passenger screening process.
“A whole generation of travellers have only known the 100ml rule to be the case, so it really is a momentous day as we become the first airport in Scotland to lift the rule,” he said.
The liquid limit was implemented nearly 20 years ago.
“The change allows more flexibility for passengers to take liquids through security, all while maintaining and improving our high safety levels through the use of 3D technology.”
