russels Airlines unveils its new sub-Saharan Africa network for the Summer 2025

Brussels Airlines is set to launch its most extensive network to sub-Saharan Africa yet, offering a 10% capacity increase for the summer 2025 season.

With the addition of an 11th long-haul aircraft in June 2025, the Belgian carrier will operate 56 weekly flights to the region, solidifying its position as a key player in connecting Europe with Africa.

Key Highlights of the Expanded Network:

Enhanced Frequencies: Daily flights to Nairobi (Kenya) and Accra (Ghana). Increased rotations to Banjul (Gambia), Freetown (Sierra Leone), and Conakry (Guinea).
More Direct Flights: Dakar (Senegal) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) will benefit from a shift to direct flights, eliminating triangular routes.
Kinshasa Upgraded: The flagship route to Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) will transition to daily direct flights starting March 2025, improving passenger convenience and sustainability by eliminating intermediate stops in Luanda (Angola).

The airline’s commitment to Kinshasa reflects its historical significance, as highlighted by CEO Dorothea von Boxberg: “Kinshasa is without a doubt our flagship route.

The history of aviation in Belgium began almost 100 years ago with the ambition of connecting Kinshasa and Brussels via air. Upgrading this route to a daily non-stop connection shows our unwavering commitment to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”

Streamlined Operations with Lufthansa Group

To focus on Kinshasa’s non-stop operations, Brussels Airlines will consolidate Luanda (Angola) flights within the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa will take over with three weekly direct flights between Luanda and Frankfurt, with the final Brussels Airlines flight to Angola scheduled for March 25, 2025.

Expanding Long-Haul Capabilities

Brussels Airlines’ long-haul network also includes two North American destinations—New York (JFK) and Washington DC (IAD).

Looking ahead, the airline plans to expand its long-haul fleet to 13 aircraft by 2027, accompanied by the introduction of a revamped cabin interior featuring updated Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class options.

The summer 2025 expansion reinforces Brussels Airlines’ role as a major connector for business and leisure travelers between Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring enhanced comfort, sustainability, and efficiency.
