: EXPLORA I JOURNEYS MAKES INAUGURAL VISIT TO ANGUILLA

 

December 27, 2024 – The Valley, Anguilla  – Anguilla proudly welcomed the luxurious Explora I Journeys Cruise Line as it makes its inaugural visit to the island, on Friday, December 27, 2024. This milestone highlights Anguilla’s growing appeal as a premier destination in the luxury cruise tourism sector. The inaugural ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Honorable Haydn Hughes, Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing & Tourism; Merrick Richardson, Parliamentary Secretary; Melisha Maccow-Niles, Chairperson of the Anguilla Tourist Board (ATB); and Chantelle Richardson, Deputy Director of Tourism. As the official agent for Explora I, Bennie’s Travel and Tours, a leading destination luxury service provider in Anguilla, played a pivotal role in coordinating the arrangements for the ship’s inaugural visit and ceremony.

Docking off Anguilla’s pristine shores, the Explora I introduced its passengers to the island’s unparalleled beauty and charm. Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to explore Anguilla’s world-renowned beaches, indulge in the island’s acclaimed restaurants, visit historical sites and iconic landmarks and experience the warmth of Anguilla’s beach bars and vibrant hospitality.

In his remarks, Minister Hughes emphasized the importance of the luxury cruise tourism niche in Anguilla’s broader tourism strategy. “Anguilla has always been a destination that appeals to discerning travelers, and the arrival of Explora I is a testament to our commitment to diversifying our tourism product while preserving the exclusivity and authenticity of our island. ATB Chairperson, Melisha Maccow-Niles, echoed the sentiment, noting that Anguilla’s ability to attract high-end cruise lines like Explora I underscores the island’s reputation as a sophisticated and sought-after destination. “Luxury cruise visitors bring an immediate economic boost, benefiting restaurants, beach bars, and local tour operators. These arrivals also open doors for future extended visits as passengers may choose to visit our island as stayover guests for their next vacation.”

Deputy Director of Tourism, Chantelle Richardson, highlighted the significance of this visit for Anguilla’s tourism. “Day trippers from the Explora I are experiencing the unique essence of Anguilla, from our pristine beaches to our culinary offerings. These experiences not only generate revenue but also reinforce Anguilla’s position as a premium destination in the global market.”
