CELEBRATING WINGO’S INAUGURAL FLIGHT FROM MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA TO CURAÇAO

WILLEMSTAD – December 18, 2024 – Curaçao is delighted to welcome Wingo’s inaugural flight from Medellín, Colombia. The introduction of this new route reaffirms the airline’s commitment to Curaçao by bringing more tourists from Colombia to experience the diverse tourism offerings available in Curaçao. This new route complements Wingo’s existing flight schedule to Curaçao, which already includes flights from Bogotá. The flights from Medellín are scheduled to operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. To mark this special occasion, the inaugural flight received a traditional water salute, followed by a welcome ceremony.

Colombia is Curaçao’s primary market in South America, with over 41 thousand stayover visitors recorded until November 2024, a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. The new Medellín route will attract even more tourists and contribute to economic growth. During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by Mr. Charles Cooper, Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning, who is also the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Andrés Camilo Franco, Corporate Communications Head at Wingo, Mr. Jonny Andersen, CEO of Curaçao Airport Partners and Mr. Julian Diaz de Pool, Commercial Manager at Curaçao Airport Holding. Later, Minister Cooper and Mr. Hugo Clarinda (Curaçao Tourist Board) together with representatives of MEO, CAP, CAH and Mr. Pablo Rebolledo, Consul of Colombia presented Mr. Andrés Camilo Franco (Wingo) with a commemorative plaque featuring our iconic Queen Emma Bridge and a nighttime view of the Handelskade. Now, more tourists from Colombia can explore our wide range of tourist attractions, enjoy cultural events, taste our local cuisine, and interact with our friendly people.

The Government of Curaçao, the Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), and the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA) congratulate Wingo on their new route. The Medellín – Curaçao route creates opportunities for Curaçao to welcome more tourists from Colombia while offering additional travel options for our local community.
