Scheduled for launch on November 30, 2024, Niseko’s latest addition—the New Hirafu Gondola—will replace the venerable Ace Quad Lift #2 Center 4. Located in Hokkaido, known for its exceptional powder snow, this new gondola will feature spacious cabins capable of holding ten passengers, enhancing throughput to 2,800 individuals per hour. This represents a substantial increase in capacity and speed, moving at a swift 6 meters per second, 1.5 times faster than its predecessor. Modern amenities including Wi-Fi, heated seats covered in synthetic leather, and interior racks for skis and snowboards enrich the experience. Unique to this gondola are two specialty cabins with transparent flooring, offering mesmerizing 360° views of the picturesque landscape.
Hakuba’s New Iwatake Gondola Transformation
Further enhancing Japan’s ski scene, Hakuba Iwatake Resort introduces its latest gondola on December 20, 2024. This new installation coincides with plans for a new international hotel at the resort’s base, cementing Hakuba’s reputation as a premier mountain destination. The gondola will ferry up to ten passengers, providing quicker access to the peaks and more time on the slopes, along with stunning panoramic vistas of the Japanese Alps.
Anticipating the 2024-25 Ski Season Amid La Niña Forecasts
The upcoming ski season in Japan has sparked considerable interest, with predictions pointing towards a La Niña winter that promises abundant snowfall and superb skiing conditions. As of November 11, the Japan Meteorological Agency reports a 40% likelihood of a La Niña winter, with sea surface temperatures expected to dip below normal before rising in the spring. This forecast anticipates excellent powder snow conditions for Japan’s ski resorts during the crucial winter months.
