IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), a global hospitality leader, is thrilled to introduce the first voco hotel on the Sunshine Coast through a partnership with Sydney’s Felix Capital. This landmark property, voco Maroochydore Sunshine Coast, is set to open in 2028 on the vibrant Ocean Street, enhancing the region’s upscale accommodation landscape with 153 thoughtfully designed rooms.
The hotel will be part of a transformative mixed-use development, bringing a fresh wave of domestic and international visitors to Maroochydore. Designed to meet the needs of the Sunshine Coast’s growing demand for premium full-service hotels, voco Maroochydore aligns with the local council’s Temporary Local Planning Instrument proposal, which seeks to attract four- and five-star hotel options. As the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games approach, this upscale addition will help ensure a diverse range of accommodations to support both the event and the region’s economy in the years beyond.
Guests at voco Maroochydore can anticipate rooms that blend lifestyle and local inspiration, with expansive water views and an inviting aesthetic. The hotel will also feature a robust dining and entertainment offering, aligning with the city’s buzzing social scene. Adding to its appeal, voco Maroochydore will include wellness-focused amenities, such as an outdoor pool on a scenic podium level, a rejuvenating spa, and a tranquil sauna, creating an oasis for relaxation and well-being in the heart of Maroochydore.
The hotel will bring an elevated hospitality experience to Maroochydore with its 140-seat specialty restaurant and a 65-seat lobby bar, both located on the ground floor and accessible directly from Ocean Street’s lively scene. Designed to cater to both corporate and private events, the property will feature over 510 square meters of modern conference and event spaces in a stylish, contemporary setting.
A highlight of these event offerings will be a spacious ballroom accommodating up to 250 guests, ideal for large gatherings and celebrations. Guests can also enjoy a 130-seat all-day dining restaurant and a poolside bar, making the hotel a premier destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) business and tourism on the Sunshine Coast, further boosting the region’s appeal as a dynamic event and hospitality hub.
Cameron Burke, Director of Development, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the Sunshine Coast. The region desperately needs new accommodation product, and hotel developments like voco Maroochydore will play a vital role in stimulating the local economy. We are excited to help enhance the enviable coastal lifestyle that Maroochydore locals enjoy, and to be expanding our presence on the Sunshine Coast by bringing our fast-growing voco brand to this key strategic market.
We’re delighted to be extending our partnership with Felix Capital, and wholly support their vision to vitalise the Sunshine Coast ahead of its regional showcase to the world as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
The mixed-use development will also feature nine luxury residences located on Levels 10 to 12 above the hotel, designed as exclusive, standalone spaces separate from the hotel’s operations.
Michael Maroun, CEO and founder, Felix Capital said: “I’m thrilled to announce our second strategic partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts and see this innovative new hotel project come to life while creating hundreds of new jobs and showcasing the amazing attractions of Maroochydore. The voco brand is a perfect fit for what is set to be a vivid lifestyle destination on the Sunshine Coast, at a time of significant need for new hotels in the region.
Over the last few months we’ve worked closely with Sunshine Coast Council to ensure our plans for our second hotel in the Sunshine Coast are in accordance with their proposed Temporary Local Planning Instruments by accommodating leisure, corporate and commercial use. It’s energising to see that big steps are being made in the right direction for the region’s growth and we’re delighted to be part of its journey.”
The new development at voco Maroochydore will offer a range of experiences, from relaxing by the pool to hosting intimate weddings, making it an attractive choice for guests from Queensland, the rest of Australia, and beyond. Located just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane, this hotel provides an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of this iconic coastal region.
As IHG Hotels & Resorts continues its expansion into regional Australia, voco Maroochydore showcases the appeal and versatility of the voco brand. Known for combining personalized service with premium touches, voco hotels offer guests inviting features such as indulgent amenities, plush bedding, and efficient check-ins. Derived from the Latin word meaning “to invite,” voco embodies a welcoming, relaxed, and charming atmosphere, with thoughtful details like cozy beds, luxurious bathroom products, fast Wi-Fi, and vibrant social spaces.
Since its launch in 2018 with voco Gold Coast, voco has rapidly grown to become IHG’s fastest-expanding brand within its Premium collection, with properties now in 18 countries. voco Maroochydore is the latest addition to IHG’s Premium portfolio, joining a growing Australian pipeline, including voco Gosford, set to open in 2025.
This development marks the second collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital, following their 2024 announcement of the upcoming Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, slated to open in 2030.
