CHTA Education Foundation wraps up intensive bootcamp in Aruba

ORANJESTAD, ARUBA – More than 100 supervisors and managers from across Aruba successfully completed an intensive bootcamp offered by the CHTA Education Foundation (CHTAEF) in partnership with the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association (AHATA).

This is the second year, the highly successful “Own Your Own Responsibility” program was executed to provide insights and actionable strategies that the hospitality professionals could implement in their various organizations.  The sessions which ran from November 5 to 22, offered two-day sessions which the participants called intense, challenging and fun.

Of the 112 who successfully completed the training, 94 participants attended the jubilant closing celebration to receive their certificates. The hospitality professionals came from a range of businesses including submarines, private islands, respite and mobile medical care, retail outlets, resorts, hotels and restaurants.

Dr. Mike Hampton, Professor at Florida International University and a CHTA Education Foundation Trustee, delivered congratulations from CHTAEF Chair Karolin Troubetzkoy and
the Board of Trustees.

In his brief remarks, Dr. Hampton said “112 proud supervisors and managers have applied themselves to two intense, interactive, and stretching, learning days, while also completing their challenges on-property between workshop days. Thank you for promising to take the tips and techniques back to your workplaces…to proactively uplift your personal supervision, or management of team members. You will always make the difference for your team members, colleagues and guests. Let’s keep it positive and full of care through the holiday season and 2025.”

Professor Hampton acknowledged the Education Foundation’s “gratitude to the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association (AHATA) for their ever-strengthening partnership and generous sponsorship of our On-Island Training Programs in Aruba.” He commended Chair Paul Gielen and the Board of Directors alongside Tisa La Sorte, President and CEO, and each participating member.

“The goal of this boot camp was to give participants a dynamic learning experience that would enable them to succeed as responsible managers or supervisors. Additionally, the training looked at the significance of maintaining a positive and motivating relationship within the department. It dived deeply into topics like interpersonal communication and realistic responsibilities. The significance of team performance, authority, discipline, consistency, were among the other subjects covered in the course,” shared Vanessa Rasmussen, AHATA Manager Membership Services & Administration.

“I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the managers’ training, and I can testify to the fact that it is an encouraging, motivating, and inspiring course. ‘You don’t need to know everything, but you need to keep your passion, that fire burning to keep learning,’ was remarked during one of the workshops, and this statement stayed with me,” Rasmussen continued. “Many thanks to Suzanne Shillingford Brooks and Louise John. You two are an unstoppable flame that inspired us to look forward to a bright future and kept us all glowing during training sessions.”

Bootcamp is one of a series of interactive, face-to-face workshops facilitated by Talkabout-EarthSolutions in Caribbean destinations for the CHTA Education Foundation, in partnership with national hotel associations and/or sponsors. Additional support for the Aruba training was provided by La Cabana Resort and Eagle Beach Resort.
